An easy DIY moisturizing balm using coconut, honey and beeswax to help fight that rough, dry and cracked skin.
Honey is an amazing substance that has been used for many years for things besides you know...eating. It can be used as an anti-bacterial and antimicrobial (which can help to lower inflammation and prevent any further infections) and it's high in amino acids, vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants that can help nourish the skin and prevent any oxidative damage.
This balm is a life saver and has no harmful materials. It is made using all natural ingredients, including; natural beeswax, coconut and raw honey. Since the ingredients are heavy in texture, this balm will come out very thick, so you won't need to apply much of it when you use it.
So, if you're someone like me who struggles with having dry hands/skin, you'll definitely want to give this DIY recipe a try. This recipe is not only good for your skin but it can even be used as a beard balm for any burly men out there who like to use beard balms.
Making The Balm
If you're wondering about the texture of the balm, I would say it is kind of a mix between a firm wax and a creamy oil. If you're trying to make it and find you would rather have it a bit thicker and a more solid balm, you'll want to increase the amount of beeswax, however, if you're the opposite and would like more of a creamier and spreadable balm, you'll want add more oil. It’s a rather forgiving recipe so don't be afraid to play around with it until you find the texture that is right for you.
This recipe roughly makes about 8 oz of the balm so you will want to get an 8 oz jar with a lid (mason jars work great) or about 7 small tin containers with lids. The small containers are perfect for travel size or if you would like to give some to your friends/family.
Ingredients You Will Need:
1/4 cup almond oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup olive oil
5 tablespoons beeswax pastilles
1 tablespoon shea butter
1 1/2 tablespoons raw honey
Essential oils (optional)1 8-ounce glass jar or about 7 small tins with lids.
How To Create The Balm:
Step 1: Get a microwavable safe bowl and combine all the ingredients (minus the raw honey & essential oils) and microwave on high in 30-second increments for about 2 minutes or until all of the oils and beeswax have completely melted.
Step 2: Take your raw honey and pour it into melted oils and beeswax and add 10-20 drops of the essential oil of your choice (essential oils are optional), whisk everything together until fully blended and immediately pour the balm into a glass jar (or your tin containers).
Step 3: It's now time to let the balm cool, so it's best that you let the balm cool to room temperature before testing it on your skin.
Note: If you would like to adjust the texture of your balm, you will want to re-melt it and add either more beeswax or more oil until the desired texture is reached and repeat cooling method.
This balm could make for a great gifts as well.
