Candles have been around for centuries and have been made out of many things from animal fat, bee's wax, palm wax, coconut wax, paraffin, and so on. I chose to go with Soy wax and in today's blog, I'm going to explain why.
A good soy candle always looks so elegant in its natural form. They appear to have a softer look while producing a more natural lighting once lite. They also don't come with any of the dangers that can come along with burning materials such as paraffin wax.
Paraffin, which is derived from petroleum and made up of straight-chain hydrocarbons, will combust to produce a dark soot that can get into linens, stain walls, and can even lead to respiratory problems.
Another thing that is common in candles that are made of paraffin is that they can also contain little tiny dangers from any additives or chemicals that are added into the wax in order to make the finishing touches of the product smell better, look better and burn better.
So, rather than me continuing to make it seem like burning candles are a horrible idea and you should never want to use them again for the sake of your health, lets get into why you may want to consider switching to soy the next time you’re looking for something that is less toxic to use.
WHY CHOOSE SOY A CANDLE?
Soy wax is made from soybeans, not only making them a natural and safe alternative to petroleum-based paraffin, but it is also a renewable and biodegradable source. It can easily be cleaned up with warm water and soap.
A big plus with the soy candle is that they don't produce any black soot that can also be a health hazard. They have a nice clean burn that DO NOT produce or release any harmful toxins in the air like a lot of paraffin-petroleum based candles do.
Soy wax also burns at cooler temperatures which means that your candle will usually burn for more hours than a paraffin candle of the same size. Another plus to the wax burning at cooler temperatures is that the wax doesn't get as hot as some other waxes, so if a spill should happen, it won't not scold a person/or pet.
A lot of candles contain some form of animal-by product in some way. Beeswax as we all know comes from the hives of beeves, then there's tallow which comes from the fat of animals, and there are even some waxes that come from the cute creatures of the sea such as whales and dolphins. But soy candles are 100% vegan and do not require any animal products in their production or use at all.
Another awesome perk to using soy candles is that their known to be able to hold onto the scent from essential oils quite well, which are often used to add fragrance to the candles.
With soy candles having a slower burn time, the scent is gradually released into the air rather than a quick release like you get from paraffin blends. This helps give more of a pleasant atmosphere for most people. The natural wax also looks lovely on it's own with it's beautiful, smooth, white shade.
Here at Soyful Candles & Melts, we give our customers the option to buy All Natural Scent Free, All Natural with Essential oils and All Natural with fragrance oils. All of our candles come colour free leaving the candles as natural and beautiful as they can be.
All of the fragrances that we purchase from the company to be used in our products do contain man made fragrance ingredients, chemical compounds and sometimes natural ingredients (not all natural).
All of the fragrance oils contain no phthlate or paraben, are toxic free and are not "cut" with fragrance fillers either.
If you've never tried burning a soy candle or even trying a soy wax melt, I think you really should give them a chance. If you find the right product, you truly would not be disappointed.
