Take care of your wicks and trim them properly with a wick trimmer that is designed to cut candle wicks.

These guys make cutting wicks easier than using your standard scissors as they can get right down into the jar and trim your wick for the right length each time. 

You will want to make sure to trim your candle wicks to 1/4" before each use for safety and to get better use out of your candle.
